Growing up as a Chinese American, it was common for others to assume I would become a doctor or engineer. However, when I told others I wanted to pursue a career in the humanities and become a writer, I was met with shocked faces. An Asian individual pursuing humanities is almost unheard of in society because Asians are commonly stereotyped as STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) students and individuals who will pursue a career in STEM.

On May 15, Alabama governor Kay Ivey signed an abortion bill for the state of Alabama. The Alabama Human Life Protection Act bans abortion in most circumstances. It was supported by 25 Republican men from Alabama’s state senate, while opposed by six Democrats.

“New Amsterdam” is a medical drama series. New Amsterdam is the name of the hospital in which the show takes place. The main character in the show is Dr. Max Goodwin, played by Ryan Eggold. In the first episode, Goodwin strives to alter the policies of the hospital. His goal is to provide care for individuals that can actually help and benefit them.

Prior to November 7, Thousand Oaks held the reputation of being a safe and quiet community in the state of California. On November 7 at approximately 11:20 p.m., a gunman began firing at the Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Students are constantly reminded by their teachers, parents and siblings that they have to succeed in school. They are reminded to do well on their math exam and to study their chemistry notes. Yet, society tends to forget about the power of the arts in education. Why is there so much emphasis on STEM education in schools, rather than the arts?
